Here are a couple of illustrations I "Goldman-ed"

Here is a 5 minute illustration I did inspired by
audan's userpic. I actually have no idea who audan is, but she did not freak out when I showed her. Although I am not happy with the final product.

This one I swiped from
sirive based on a comic he did lately. This was done in less than a minute in Microsoft Paint during a break at work. Quality out the window for "humor".
edit: I honestly had no idea this was
a meme when I drew this. Apparently I was number five. (sigh) Now, I look bad since I did not do the second panel. Heck, I didn't even draw it well.

In the meantime, I hope you saw my real Goldman meme entry. The second one I did was actually close to the way Todd illustrates. I opened Ive's comic in Photoshop, used the pen tool to basically ink the paths in. The lines are mine, but drawn over Ive's (since that was the meme). Then I "stroke" path to add a 3 pt line weight and then again with "simulate pressure" at 5 pts to get that hand drawn look. Add the solid fill and a pre-made line screen, viola. Anybody can do it.
In my art, I usually do not illustrate other people art, of course, but I do use similar techniques using photo references (usually ones my wife or I took). As the great Charles Schultz said, “Armature cartoonists draw comics about comics. Professional cartoonists draw comics about life.”

Yeah I saw your real Goldman entry, it does look much like Ive's comic- I guess because it is based off it. Unfortunately I'm just fooling around with drawing in the midst of mind-clotting uni, so I don't even have Photoshop on my laptop. I do on my other computer but it confuses me so much I'm not sure what to do with it.
Photo references are definitely good to draw from, better than doing a Goldman of course. As for my art, I'm still not certain if I have a style or anything fixed as of yet. I know what I like when I see it though. :) And I noticed your entry about Australian comics. I'm Australian!

While I have not read this exact book, ”Perspective! For Comic Book Artists” by David Chelsea comes highly recommended. It is actually written in the first person in standard comic book format. I have seen some of Chelsea's other work and it looks good and easy to read.
A book I have read over and over again is ”Making Comics” by Scott McCloud. This has a chapter on world building including traditional prospective and even a little bit on how to fake it. “Making Comics” has so many tools to storytelling, drawing and writing people that feel real, various illustrating techniques and more. Along with “Understanding Comics” (Also by McCloud) should be essential to any artist.
However the best class does not come in a classroom or in a book. It is the world around you. Keep on drawing!
